This workshop sets out to provide journalists who are covering health issues with a crash course in evidence based medicine by one of its foremost experts, Gerd Antes. Topics include the hierarchy of evidence, pitfalls in the interpretation of studies, online resources, and how to uncover and evaluate sources´ conflicts of interest. The implications and limitations of evidence in health care will be highlighted using screening for depression screening as an example; a current topic in Austrian prevention policy. The workshop will be conducted in German except for an expert interview which will be conducted in English.

Participation is free for journalists, but registration is required. For literature search exercises it is recommended to bring a laptop computer. There are 15 vacancies for the course. Queries and registration (by 11 June):
